Health and safety law to be simplified for small firms

Summary

Following the extensive health and safety law reviews, the Government has announced that health and safety rules for small businesses will be simplified, if not reduced, in new laws in 2012. From 2013, self-employed people whose work poses no threat to others will be exempt from these rules.

Additionally, from January 1, 2012, a panel will be established to allow businesses to challenge and overturn incorrect decisions by health and safety inspectors.
